Our adventure tours to Darwin allow you to visit the Monkey Mia Dolphins, Snorkel the Ningaloo Reef, Explore the depths of ancient Karijini National Park, relax on Cable Beach in Broome and then venture along the Gibb River Road, one of the country’s most challenging journeys to explore the rugged Kimberley Region. Visit breathtaking gorges and waterholes, beautiful camp grounds and working cattle stations, see the Bungle Bungles in the Purnululu National Park from the air, thanks to our partnership with AVIAIR, finishing the tour in the tropical city of Darwin.

Attention

This tour includes hikes up to 8 kilometres per day, often requiring some scrambling over uneven terrain. The tour requires a good level of fitness and is recommended for active travellers who want to experience the wild nature of Western Australia. Extreme temperatures can be experienced while travelling in the outback (very hot, very cold, and very humid). Please bring a small day pack for use when hiking and a pair of hiking boots is recommended.

Day 1 - Perth to Kalbarri

Our first stop will be the impressive Pinnacles Desert in Nambung National Park. You’ll enjoy a fully guided tour through these amazing limestone formations and drop in at the Discovery Centre before we have lunch by the sea. After a quick stop in the town of Geraldton it will be on to Northbrook Farmstay for some true blue Aussie hospitality and our overnight stay. (L, D)

Day 2 - Kalbarri to Shark Bay - Monkey Mia

Today we will visit the marvels of The Murchison Gorge, Natures Window and Z-Bend in Kalbarri National Park. Here you will have the option to try abseiling into the gorge ($40)! If conditions allow us, we will cool off with a swim in the Murchison River before we’re back on the bus travelling north to Shell Beach and the town of Denham for our accommodation. (B, L, D)

Day 3 - Shark Bay to Coral Bay

The morning of day 3 we will meet the famous Monkey Mia Dolphins and get some amazing photos. Then chill out on the beach or at the resort until we head back on the road mid-morning. We visit the breathing rock formations, the Stromatolites, before settling in to our accommodation in Coral Bay, located right on the famous Ningaloo Reef! (B, L, D)

Day 4 - Coral Bay

Day 4 is yours to enjoy the many great tours and activities Coral Bay has to offer, with special discounts available as an Aussie Wanderer passenger! Go for a stroll on the beach and check out the shark nursery, swim with the manta rays, hang out at the local or go for a snorkel on the Ningaloo Reef only meters from shore. On this evening we take the short drive up the peninsular to Exmouth and check in to our accommodation. (B, D)

Day 5 - Exmouth

We will spend the day exploring Cape Range National park, a spectacular place of rugged limestone ranges, breathtaking deep canyons and 50km of pristine beaches. Experience snorkelling at the stunning Turquoise Bay (snorkel hire $10), visit Vlamingh Head Lighthouse, relax at Milyearing Visitors Centre and more before we return to our accommodation late afternoon. Day 6 - Exmouth to Karijini National Park

Up early on day 6 as we will travel east through station country and stop at Tom Price, the highest town in Western Australia, for supplies. Then we will head to the amazing Karijini National Park where we will stay at the multi award winning Karijini Eco Retreat in Eco Safari Tents with your own verandah, quality beds, linen and hot showers! Day 7 & 8 - Karijini

The next 2 days will give us plenty of time to explore Karijini National Park and to enjoy 2.5 billion years of evolution and 40,000 years of culture. We will visit and hike the gorges, swim in amazing rock pools, stand under waterfalls and explore intriguing rock formations including Hancock Gorge, Weano Gorge and its adventurous Handrail Pool, Dales Gorge, Circular Pool, Fortescue Falls, Fern Pool and more. Then late on the second day we will travel further north to Pardoo Roadhouse and check in our tents or swags for a night of camping under the stars. (B, L, D)

Day 9 - Pardoo Roadhouse to Broome

The morning of day 9 sees us arrive at 80 Mile Beach for some awesome photos! When we arrive in Broome we will take you for a tour around town before we check in at our accommodation, The Kimberley Klub Backpackers. (B, L)

Day 10 & 11 - Broome

The next two days will allow you to enjoy free time and all that Broome has to offer! Go for a swim at the stunning Cable Beach, explore China Town and its pearling history, watch a movie at the world’s oldest open air cinema or ride a camel on the beach with sunset! Ask your tour guide for any assistance with booking tours. Then you will check out the cultural variety of eating venues for your lunches and dinners or cook your own at the hostel.

Day 12 - Broome to Silent Grove

Departing Broome early in the morning we head east towards the famous Gibb River Road and arrive at Windjana Gorge in the Napier Ranges for lunch. After lunch we will explore the gorge to view the native birds and resident freshwater crocodiles. In the afternoon we explore Tunnel Creek and hear the legend of the Aboriginal freedom fighter, Jandamarra, before heading to Silent Grove for our first night under the stars. (L, D)

Day 13 - Silent Grove to Mt Elizabeth

Enjoy your first morning waking up in the Kimberley far away from the hustle and bustle of city life. On day 2 you will explore more of the region’s gorges including Bell, Galvans and Manning. Due to the incredible diversity of the north west the water levels at the time of your journey will determine which gorges you visit, however each are unique and awe-inspiring in their own right. After a day of exploring and swimming in these magnificent natural attractions we will travel to our overnight location on the working cattle station of Mount Elizabeth. (B, L, D)

Day 14 - Mt Elizabeth to El Questro

Heading further east we will explore, swim and hike this amazing region of Western Australia, driving across the vast Pentecost River and reaching the beautiful outback oasis that is El Questro. In the afternoon you will have the opportunity to take advantage of the many optional activities available at El Questro (Extra Cost). (B, L, D)

Day 15 - El Questro

On day 4 we will discover a portion of the one million acres of the El Questro Wilderness Park beginning with a soak in Zebedee Springs and a hike into El Questro Gorge. Then sit back and relax by the river or grab a drink at the Swinging Arm Bar before settling for our final night at El Questro. (B, L, D)

Day 16 - El Questro to Lake Argyle via Kununurra

Wake up in glorious El Questro for the second time then enjoy a short drive and morning hike to the refreshing Emma Gorge. Back on the road, we head towards the Hoochery distillery, the oldest continuously operating distillery in Western Australia. Here you will have the opportunity to taste test the famous Ord River Rum (optional). We will then continue through to Lake Argyle, Australia’s largest man-made lake for a spot of lunch and set up camp. After lunch you will have the option to experience an afternoon on the water with a sunset cruise on the lake (optional) before dinner and a much deserved sleep before exciting day 6! (B, L, D)

Day 17 - Lake Argyle to Purnululu National Park and Return to Kununurra

On this morning we drive from Lake Argyle, into Kununurra ready to board our flight to the Bungle Bungles. For this leg of the tour, Aussie Wanderer has partnered up with AVIAIR to create a once in a life time opportunity. From here, we begin the Bungle Bungle Wanderer Tour! Definitely a bucket list moment! The tour begins with a one hour scenic flight over Lake Argyle, Lake Kununurra, the Ord and Bow Rivers, the Carr Boyd and Osmond Ranges and a first look at the Bungle Bungles from the sky! Once landed at the remote Purnululu National Park airfield we’ll begin the land based part of the tour, including a walk amongst the incredible contrasted beehive structures of the Bungle Bungles and a visit to the breathtaking Cathedral Gorge whilst learning about the cultural significance of the area. This amazing adventure will end with a return scenic flight over the Argyle Diamond Mine finishing up at the Hidden Valley Caravan Park in Kununurra for the night. (B, L, D)

Day 18 - Kununurra to Katherine

This morning we say goodbye to our passengers returning to Broome and start making our way to Victoria River Roadhouse where we will do the escarpment walk and have lunch. Then we will head towards Katherine and visit their crystal clear hot springs, arriving at our accommodation in the late afternoon at Knotts Crossing Resort for dinner and a swim in the resort pool.

Day 19 - Katherine to Darwin

Our final day sees us journey to one of the Northern Territory’s most stunning areas, Litchfield National Park. On our way, we will stop for lunch at the ethereal Butterfly Farm before progressing further to experience the fascinating Magnetic Termite Mounds, Florence Falls and Buley Rockhole before arriving in Darwin in the early evening.
